Dipl.-Ing. Matthias Puchta

Matthias Puchta is head of the Energy Storage Systems Department at
Fraunhofer IWES and has been working at the institute since 2008. His
activities at the institute include the management of the department as well
as the technical and organisational management and realization of
application-oriented R&D energy storage projects for industrial customers
and public entities. The department basically deals with the technological
development of storage technologies. One main focus is the development of
battery storage simulation models for Li-Ion and Lead-Acid batteries. Mr.
Puchta studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Kassel until 2008.
He is member of the Fraunhofer Battery Alliance which focuses on
electrochemical storage technologies.

• The department covers application-oriented R&D in:
• Lead-acid and Li-ion batteries modelling, simulation and real time applications (emulators)
• Energy storage concepts in the kW to the MW range (i.e. compressed air, offshore pump storage)
• Power to gas e.g. methanation of hydrogen using biogas as the CO2 source
